Tiny Memoirs: Telling a Big Story in 100 Words (Ages 13-19)

  • Rose Writing Center 229 East 85th Street New York, NY, 10028 United States (map)

Can you tell a meaningful story from your life in just 100 words? In this one-hour workshop, students will explore the art of the tiny memoir, learning how to transform a small, meaningful moment into a compelling personal narrative.

Using mentor texts and guided writing exercises, students will practice choosing a focused moment, developing a narrative arc, using vivid details and strong word choice, and making every word count. Students will also have the opportunity to polish their work and submit it to The New York Times’ Tiny Memoir Contest, giving them a chance to share their writing with a wider audience.
