Amazing Dolphins

By Zachary Q., 3rd Grade

This paragraph will talk about the scarred Risso’s dolphin. Risso’s dolphins have round, blunt heads and are also mottled. Risso’s dolphins become scarred because of the tussling and playing with each other and the squid and octopi that they eat. Risso’s dolphins, which can stay underwater for almost thirty minutes, can dive nearly one thousand feet below the surface. The most famous Risso’s dolphin is Pelorus Jack. For twenty-four years, Jack guided ships safely through a dangerous part of Cook Strait, New Zealand.

This paragraph will talk about the smooth Bottlenose dolphin. Bottlenose dolphins have short, thick snouts and mouths that look like large smiles. Other dolphins do not have this happy grin on their faces. Bottlenose dolphins do not dive deep because they can only hold their breath for twelve minutes. For a bottlenose dolphin, a deep dive would be 150 feet. Bottlenose dolphins, which help people, saved Todd Endirs when a great white shark attacked him while he was surfing.
